Why learn German?
Learning German opens doors to a broader range of career opportunities in business, science and the arts. For students who have a family connection to the culture, there is an opportunity to renew contact with their ancestral language and culture. Taking German helps you meet the entrance requirements of many post-secondary institutions. For example, when applying to some post-secondary programs, students can use German to replace Math 30.

Why learn German at Bev Facey?
Students can start learning German at Bev Facey with no previous knowledge of the language (although students tend to pick up the language relatively quickly). Students that have learned German at Millshaven School can take German 20 without having taken German 10, and they tend to be very successful, even if they haven't spoken German in several years.
Learning German at Bev Facey is fun, especially if you like music. We listen to music every day, including bands like Rammstein and Tokio Hotel. For more information about the German courses offered at Bev Facey, please click on "Modern Languages Course Descriptions" at the bottom of the English and Modern Languages page (under "Programs").

Alberta Education Language Development Exchange Program
Students taking part in an exchange develop their second language skills and a better understanding of another culture, as well as becoming more independent and self-confident. Students that have lived abroad will also be more employable in the future.
The cost of taking part in the exchange is relatively low, compared to travelling as a tourist. In addition to hosting a student for three or four months, families are responsible for their child's airfare (except for the Quebec exchange, for which travel costs are paid), and spending money.
If you take part in the German exchange, you will host a student from September to October of next year, and you will stay with their family from the following March to May. If you take part in the French exchange, you will host a student from September to December and travel to Quebec from January to April.
If you have any questions or are interested in applying, please contact me in person at school or by sending me an e-mail over the school website. The application form is available online:
